Which level should I start with?

  • Beginner needs naked singles only: there is always a square with just one possible number.
  • Easy needs naked and hidden singles: look for the one square in a row, column or box where a number fits.
  • Medium needs singles plus naked pairs and pointing pairs, so pencil marks start to pay off.
  • Hard needs everything in Medium plus box/line reduction and naked triples.
  • Expert needs X-Wing as well as everything in Hard.
  • Fiendish needs more than every technique in Expert: chains, colouring or a careful trial.

New to Sudoku? Start with Beginner or Mini 6×6. If Medium feels like work, Hard will feel like a wall; if Hard feels comfortable, try Expert or one of the variants. Not sure? The free sampler has one puzzle from every book.

Rated by technique, not by clue count

Most puzzle books grade difficulty by how many numbers are missing, which is why an “easy” puzzle sometimes needs a guess. These puzzles were made and checked by Ninebloom’s solver, which solves like a person and rates each puzzle by the hardest technique it needs. Every one has exactly one solution, and none of them is in the app’s own puzzle lists: they are printed here for the first time.

Stuck? Play it in Ninebloom

These puzzles were made and checked by Ninebloom, our Sudoku app for Android, and rated the same way: by the techniques a puzzle needs, not by how many numbers are missing. Every classic puzzle in the books has a small QR code beside it; scan it and the same puzzle opens in the app, where a hint names the technique that cracks the next square and shows you why. Questions about the collection

Do I need the app?

No. The books are complete on paper, with every solution. The app is there if you want a hint that explains the next step.

Are the puzzles also in the app?

No. They come from the same generator but are new, checked against every puzzle the app ships so none repeat. The QR codes open the book’s puzzle in the app as a typed-in grid.

Will there be more volumes?

Yes. New volumes are added to this collection, and no puzzle is ever repeated from one volume to the next.

Do I get a physical book?

No, these are PDF downloads you print yourself, at home or at a print shop. The links arrive straight after checkout.
