What makes a page bold and easy?
- Thick outlines. The lines are drawn heavy and dark, so they’re easy to see without reading glasses and they hold a felt-tip’s edge.
- One subject, drawn large. A single cabin, mug, cat or cactus fills the page, with open space around it instead of a busy background.
- Big shapes, few tiny ones. Most spaces are wider than a fingertip, so chunky pencils, crayons and markers all fit.
- Quick to finish. Most pages take one sitting, which means there’s a finished picture at the end of every evening.
Which book to start with
Sleepy Pets & Pals is the gentlest: napping puppies and curled-up cats on rugs, cushions and quilts. Comfort Food & Sweet Treats is pies, sundaes, bowls of soup and candy jars, and Simple Houseplants & Succulents is a windowsill of cacti, macramé planters and terrariums. For the cold months there’s Winter Wonderland, with snowmen, snow globes and pine trees, and Cozy Cabins & Coffee Shops, with log fires, café counters and snowy windows.
Once those feel easy, the other five Quiet Corners books keep the same bold lines but mix in fuller scenes: the seaside, reading nooks, autumn, spring gardens and a tea party. Our seasonal Mitten & Mug is bold and easy too, with sixty single-subject winter pages, and the cute Cozy Cottage books are the next step up. Our guide to easy vs detailed coloring pages compares the styles.
Who they’re for
Bold and easy pages suit anyone who wants to relax rather than concentrate: seniors and anyone whose eyes or hands prefer a bigger shape, beginners picking up pencils for the first time in years, and busy people who want a page they can finish before bed. The subjects are familiar and gentle, so they also work well in care homes, memory cafés, waiting rooms and at the kitchen table with the grandchildren.
Coloring tips for bold pages
- Try felt-tips. Thick outlines catch marker ink, so bright felt-tips give clean, flat color. Print on 100–120 gsm paper so they don’t soak through.
- Shade one side. Color the whole shape, then go over one edge again with the same pencil. Big shapes look rounder straight away.
- Add your own background. The open space around each subject is yours: a soft wash of blue, a few stars or a patterned wallpaper.
- Use the color guide. Every book comes with a full-color version of each page, numbered to match, if you’d like a palette to start from.
