Which garden book?
For a relaxing, cute page: Cozy Cottage Garden has flower beds, the vegetable patch, the greenhouse and potting bench, garden structures such as arches and wells, garden visitors (bees, ladybirds, frogs, robins and a hedgehog) and garden days. The flowers are drawn as big blooms with clear petals, so they’re easy to fill with markers or pencils. Cozy Cottage, the first book in the series, is cottages and their gardens together: garden paths, trees and blooms, and garden friends.
For a detailed, botanical page: Wildflower Cottage Garden from The Honeywick Collection has foxglove borders, lavender paths, rose arches, zinnia cutting gardens and a bee skep garden, drawn in fine line with soft grey detail. The Cottagecore Greenhouse moves under glass: potting benches, seedling shelves, orchid displays and fern-filled sunrooms.
Want several? The Honeywick Garden Trio and the Cozy Cottage Out & About Trio are three books each for $16.99.
Coloring ideas for flowers
- Petals get darker toward the center. Color each petal lightly all over, then add a second layer of the same color only where it meets the middle of the flower. It’s the quickest way to make a bloom look round.
- Use two greens. A yellow-green (sage or mint) for new leaves and sunlit sides, and a blue-green (moss) for leaves in shadow. One green all over makes a garden look flat.
- Choose a garden palette before you start. Cottage gardens look best in three or four flower colors repeated around the page: say blush pink, lavender and butter yellow, with a little cornflower blue.
- Let the paper be the white flowers. Daisies, chamomile and white roses look cleanest left as paper with a pale grey or green shadow at the base of each petal.
Both free samplers include garden pages. The Honeywick sampler has a foxglove garden and a glasshouse, and the Cozy Cottage sampler has a mouse on a pumpkin in the vegetable patch.
Common questions
Style. Cozy Cottage pages are cute and bold, with rounded shapes, big spaces and a small animal in most scenes. Honeywick pages are finer and more detailed, with soft grey texture, and take longer to color.
Plain copier paper is fine for colored pencils. For gel pens and fine-tip markers use 100–120 gsm (28–32 lb); for alcohol or brush markers, 160 gsm (65 lb) or cardstock. The printing guide has a paper table.
